Our Amazing Grace Vineyard Viognier hails from a 2 acre parcel of Viognier vines planted in 2001 on a sandy granite mountainside looking out westward over the picturesque Rockfish River Valley. The 2018 vintage of this wine boasts uncommon weight and concentration. Poor weather during flowering in 2018 cut potential yields by almost 50% compared to 2017 and dramatically increased the occurrence of tiny, super-concentrated “shot berries” throughout the vineyard. This small crop matured extremely quickly through the hot, sunny month of August, and was picked at peak ripeness on September 6th. Fermented and aged in a combination of French oak and stainless steel, the wine is immediately notable for the texture and power that only low yields can provide. With aromas of pear nectar, grilled pineapple, and vanilla bean, this decadent Viognier nevertheless remains fresh and lively thanks to the brisk acidity Amazing Grace’s cooler microclimate always provides.
